Early Life
Marshall Bruce Mathers III (Eminem) was born on October 17, 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He is the child of Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr. and Deborah Rae Nelson. Bruce left the family to go to California and have 2 more children. Deborah (More commonly preferred to as Debbie) had a child, Nathan Kane Samora (Also known as Nate). During Marshall's childhood, he and Debbie frequently moved from Missouri to Michigan. At age 14 , he started rapping with his high-school friend, Mike Ruby. They earned their names Manix (Ruby), and M&M (Mathers). Mathers' nickname later changed to Eminem, which most people know him as. Marshall snuck into a neighboring high-school with friend and rapper, Proof to have lunchroom rap battles. On Saturdays, they attended open mic contests at The Hip-Hop shop on 7 Mile in Detroit.
Growing up, Eminem frequently fought wit his mother. In 1987, Debbie allowed runaway Kimberly Ann Scott (More commonly known as Kim) to stay with Debbie, Marshall, and Nate in their house. After spending 3 years in ninth grade, Marshall dropped out of Lincoln High-School do to truancy and bad grades.
